Petaluma River History Paddle
The Petaluma River is the reason there’s a city here.
Long before highways and railroads, this tidal waterway was the region’s saltwater highway—a working river that powered Petaluma’s rise and connected Sonoma County’s farms and businesses to San Francisco, the Gold Rush, and markets around the world.
On this two-hour, gentle guided paddle, history comes alive through storytelling from multiple points of view. You’ll paddle in stable sit-on-top kayaks with an experienced, costumed guide, while costumed actors on shore step into the lives of real Petalumans who once depended on the river for their livelihood.
Hear stories from people who worked the egg trade, ran messages between businesses, managed boarding houses, and built enterprises that fueled a growing city. As you move through downtown and along historic riverbanks, you’ll gain a deeper appreciation for the ingenuity, industrious spirit, and daily lives that shaped Petaluma—and the river that made it all possible.
No paddling experience necessary. All equipment and instruction provided.
Just bring your curiosity—and be ready to see Petaluma through new eyes.
$75/person. Includes everything, even insight!
