Full Snow Moon Paddle/Pedal
Nothing beats a full moon on Sonoma County’s favorite tidal waterway, the Petaluma River. This easy outing in high-quality Hobie pedal kayaks is designed to give you the best of both worlds, water and land. Departing from our downtown dock in the falling evening light, we’ll pedal out of the urban center into the main channel, and stop at the prime moon viewing spot to see Her Majesty rise as the sun sets.
With your newfound sense of Nature’s brilliance, you’ll return downtown in time for dinner and drinks, ready to enjoy the splendid variety of Petaluma’s many restaurants.

When the tide rises, the river reveals a hidden world.
Join The Floathouse crew for a gentle, guided paddle upstream on a high tide of almost 7 feet, when the Petaluma River opens into its quieter, greener reaches. With extra water beneath us, we’re able to glide beyond the downtown channel and into a tranquil tidal slough—an ever-changing habitat rich with birdlife and natural beauty.

As we drift upstream, keep an eye out for great egrets, blue herons, snowy egrets, turtles basking along the banks, and the lush plant life that thrives where freshwater and tides meet. The pace is unhurried, the water is calm, and the experience is deeply grounding—many guests say they can feel their stress melt away within minutes.
Along the way, our guide shares stories of the flora, fauna, and human history that have shaped this upper channel—from its ecological importance to its role in Petaluma’s past as a working river. You’ll come away with a deeper appreciation for how close this wild place is to the heart of downtown.

Come out and enjoy the spring Full Worm Moon on Sonoma County’s favorite tidal waterway, the Petaluma River. A fun evening outing awaits us—- in The Floathouse fleet of high-quality Hobie pedal kayaks! Our guide will lead the way from our Petaluma downtown dock as the sun sets and the moon rises. As we pedal together from the urban center out into the main channel, passing our city’s riverside walking and boating spots, you’ll unwind and relax until we meet the moon in her full glory.

On Saturday, December 6th, ride an 8.1-foot tide on a magical upstream paddle—this special tide opens up the river in all its glory.
Float past historic Gold Rush-era buildings, then glide into serene wetlands, surrounded by willows, bulrushes, and soaring herons. The combination of this massive tide and the winter season creates an awe-inspiring natural landscape, with box turtles, seasonal waterfalls, and more waiting to be discovered. This is a rare opportunity to explore Petaluma’s natural paradise, right in the center of town.
No experience is necessary—just bring your sense of wonder and get ready to float through one of Petaluma’s best-kept secrets.
Turkey Relay 2025: A Fun Race on the Petaluma River
Petaluma’s favorite pre-Santa splash! The Turkey Relay on Nov. 29 features team relays, costumes, and river fun. Check in and launch at North Bay Rowing Club/The Boatyard, 625 2nd Street, Petaluma, CA. Teams assigned by River Town Racers elves. $30 preregistration; Bring your own watercraft or rent from The Floathouse for $10/craft. This event benefits Petaluma’s own sprint kayak team, the inimitable River Town Racers. Costumes encouraged!

As the morning light shimmers across the Turning Basin, you’ll float safely anchored on the gentle tide, surrounded by the healing vibrations of water and sound. Under the guidance of Lori Jones, an experienced Kundalini and Yin Yoga instructor, movement becomes meditation and sound becomes stillness.
